Food Friday - The Starbucks Tie Dye Frapp

Tie Dye Frappo

I'm sure you've seen it everywhere, the Starbucks ads that tell you to "Come try the limited time drink that tastes like summer!", or the hundreds of pictures of the colorful drink on your friend's Instagram stories; but the question is:  what does "summer" taste like? Is the beautiful drink actually worth drinking?

I went and bought the drink just a little bit ago, and frankly, I'm not mad that it's only available for a limited time. I ordered the drink, and the employees sighed as they concocted the over-hyped drink that is difficult to make. As I was waiting, I asked a few employees that weren't busy what they thought of the drink, and many said that they hadn't tried it themselves, however they hate making the drink as it is difficult to get the highly specific colors and ingredients to create the tie-dyed look that the drink calls for. A few had said they tried it and liked it, but I decided I would make that decision myself.

Once I got my drink, snapped a few pictures, and settled down, it was time for the moment of truth. I had a sip, and it was very sweet. It had a prominent banana flavor that was mixed with other sort of generic fruity flavors. It tasted like fruit loops with an emphasis of banana. It was also VERY sugary, so if that's not your thing, then I wouldn't recommend. Now I'm weird in that I LOVE drinks that are way too sweet and syrup-like, and this drink definitely fulfilled those requirements. However, once I got near the bottom of the drink, I was wondering if I could take any more banana sweetness. To put it simply, it is a very sweet, sugary treat that should be consumed by sugar lover like me. Whether or not you like it is up to you. The drink is only available up to sometime in mid-July when supplies run out, so if you want to try it out, go to Starbucks and let me know if I'm wrong!
